can't uninstall to re-install

Recommended Posts

I have been using CM almost daily for 18 months without any issues (Win 98). Now because of other problems I had to re-install Win 98 and CM won't run. I tried to un-install it without success. I can't even get the game to re-install properly (It assumes all is OK and just updates BMP's etc.)

I am now having severe withdrawl symptoms - anyone got solution to removing and re-installing CM ??

If you left CM on the hard drive undisturbed it should run after reinstalling Windows. It really doesn't require any registry enteries or unique .DLL's, etc.

Have you updated your DirectX version (Windows 98 comes with DirectX 5.0, which isn't enough to run CM, Windows 98 2nd Ed. comes with DirectX 6.1 which is fine) ? Sometimes an update to DirectX is necessary for the latest video drivers. You can do a search in the registry editor for "combat mission" and delete any enteries you find. I recall once that there was a particular problem running the installer due to some funkiness with a registry entry.

Thank you for the suggestions - I did find REG entry and deleted it, also got Direct X update. Now it installed just fine. Only problem is is I lost all my beautiful mods and updates that I had collected over the past 12 months (Yeh, I know I should have saved them, but in the heat of battle I lost my head a bit) - never mind, I will just have to find them all and re-build my shattered army.

Thanks again........
