Text problem with Intel 4500HD chipset?

Recommended Posts

I've just purchased a new little laptop which has enough juice to play Shock Force - the only problem I have is a minor one admittedly, but annoying none the less. The white text that you see in the menus is slightly blurred or corrupted - anyone else have this problem? I'm thinking it must be a Intel 4500 driver issue, or something to do with opengl, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know of a workaround?

Updated drivers will probably be the only solution to this. There is a possibility of changing whatever text bitmaps there are in the Data BRZ files to something that may have less/or no alpha-channel as the background (similar to the 'Radeon Text Fix' for the CMx1 series). I'm not aware of anyone having modified the files like this though.

You can download the latest Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Graphics drivers from this list (correctly identify your OS in the above 'Select an Operating System' box). One thing to be aware of is that not all laptops will work with the Intel provided drivers. You may have to go back to the laptop manufacturer to get a driver that will work (which will most likely not be the newest available).

I don't know if the latest Intel drivers will have a fix for this issue or not. Quite possibly not. So it may require patience for Intel to provide a fix. Unfortunately OpenGL may not be a big priority for them since most games are DirectX.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm using the latest drivers, having just 'upgraded' my drivers using the device manager, but I think I'll download those ones there just in case. I'm using Win 7 Pro, and Mobile IntelĀ® 4 Series Express Chipset Family.

I'll see if i can find out what set of drivers it has installed first.
