spankfish Posted July 4, 2010 Share Posted July 4, 2010 I recently got this game. No issues installing, all went fine. Started the game, all ok, went through the encyclopedia, fine. Thought i would do some training missions to get used to the game. Loaded in, HUD fine, but the actual game graphics dont work. Im just getting like a kalidescope effect for all textures, everything ecept the little round unit icons. Tried all the patches to see if it fixed it, no joy. Im running a HP 2ghz PC with 1gb RAM and a Radeon X800 GTO graphics card. Drivers for it are quite recent. I have things like Rome:Total War and Medieval II running fine, HL2 is ok etc. Anyone any ideas or encountered this before? Ill try and get a pic if that helps. Schrullenhaft Posted July 4, 2010 Share Posted July 4, 2010 Theatre of War 1 is an OpenGL game. Some users reported problems similar to yours with some earlier 9.x series Catalyst drivers. The latest drivers available for the X800 series are the 10.2 Catalysts. However CMSF, another OpenGL game, had problems with the 10.2 Catalysts to my knowledge. I don't know if Theatre of War 1 would also experience problems with this particular driver or not. You may want to install the 9.11 Catalyst drivers and see if they help with this particular problem or not. If you tell me your Windows version, including whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit, I can provide you a download link to some of these drivers or you can simply look for them at amd.com. KageToraUK Posted July 6, 2010 Share Posted July 6, 2010 I'm having trouble with it, too - wrote a question on this forum and tech support seemed to have misunderstood that I was saying I had downloaded an illegal copy of the game or something, because all they said was 'do not download torrents' and closed my thread so I couldn't reply. spankfish Posted July 6, 2010 Author Share Posted July 6, 2010 Dude, the guys from tech support mailed me with a solution. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=86902&page=3 In that one they installed the 9.7 Catalysts (and the problem returned with the 9.8 Catalysts). However ATI/AMD does not list 9.7 drivers for the X800 series. The selections available are: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/previous/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx Earlier in the previous thread people mention that the 9.2 Catalysts worked IF you TURN OFF SHADOWS. That MIGHT be true of your current video drivers (turning off shadows). With the X800 ATI/AMD discontinued support in the driver for series and all earlier ones (and some later ones). So the 10.6 drivers actually should not support that video card at all. As you can see from the above list the driver support jumps around with 9.11 and 10.2 being the latest: Catalyst 10.2: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.13〈=English Catalyst 9.2: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/9-2/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx?〈=English Please be sure to uninstall your previous video driver, reboot and then install the new (or older) driver (which had been previously downloaded).
