Disappearing Scenarios

Recommended Posts

I'm having a strange issue with scenarios that I write not being visible in the explorer. I'm using 64 bit Windows Vista, which may be the source of the problem.

I can see the scenarios in the scenario editor and in the battle list, which makes this all the more perplexing. I can also see scenarios sent to me by friends etc. It is all very bizarre.

With Windows Vista and Windows 7 there is a feature called UAC - User Account Control. It is an enhanced security that among its features is the prevention of writing data to the '\Program Files' or '\Program Files (x86)' directory. Your files are being stored instead in a 'VirtualStore directory'. For a Battlefront version of CMSF the files will probably be found here:

'\Users\{your account name}\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Battlefront\Combat Mission Shock Force\Game Files'

You may not be able to see this directory until you perform the following in the Windows Explorer File Manager:

Go to the 'Organize' menu > 'Folder and search options' > 'View' tab > under the 'Hidden files and folders' section select the 'Show hidden files, folders and drives'. Click the 'Apply to Folders' button and then 'OK' to the dialog box that pops up confirming that. Now click 'OK'. You should be able to see the hidden files in folders (that usually appear slightly dimmed) in the right-hand pane. Once you've navigated to them, the directories/folders should appear in the left-hand pane.
