"Directx 7 drivers not found"

Recommended Posts

I've had to reinstall Blitzkrieg 2 and when I try to run it I get :

"Error: DirectX 7 or greater could not be found on your system. Program Terminated."

I have DirectX 10 on my system so I'm at a loss as to what the problem truly is. Can anyone help?

Sorry about that - it's the .dll registration service error message that is noted in the "Troubleshooting - Please Read" sticky. I've followed the directions about logging in as administrator, and also right-clicking on the shortcut icon and trying to run as administrator, but the same message keeps coming up:

"You do not have permission to run the required DLL registration service for this application. Please log in as an Administrator, or right click the Application icon and select 'Run As Administrator' in order to proceed.

I'm sure it's operator error on my part, but don't know exactly what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?

ssn767,

If this is Vista then unfortunately you need full Administrator rights to get the program up and running for the first time as Microsoft has made some changes with how it allows certain programs to register on the operating system.

If you've tried running as an Administrator and it still did not work then my guess is that you still do not have full permission to run the program on the computer. Can you confirm that your log in account has full rights? i.e. it is not a work computer or something like that with user restrictions etc.

If you do have full permission/administrator rights to use this computer, i.e. it is a home computer etc., another thing you can try is to temporarily disable the UAC system on Vista to simply get the game up and running the first time and then you can re-enable it as the DLL registration service is only required once.

To do this you will have to go to your Control Panel and there is more information found here on how to do this exactly:

Hope this helps,

Hubert

Hi Hubert,

Unfortunately I am running Windows Vista, but it's on a home computer to which I have full Administrator rights. The strange thing is that I was running Blitzkrieg 2 with no issues until I uninstalled then reinstalled it on the computer. A couple of saved games were causing the game to crash when I tried to delete them so I thought a fresh install would help things out. Apparently that wasn't what I should have done.

I made sure to disable the UAC system a while back, so that shouldn't be affecting things here. Are there any other options to get SC back up and running?

You can manually try and have it register by going to Start->Run and typing in the following:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Battlefront\Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg\dx7vb.dll"

Note, this is using the default path and if you installed to a different directory then you need to change the above path to reflect this. Also you need to keep the quotes, i.e. "" to ensure the proper path is found.

It should work though if UAC is disabled, can you double check to make sure?

Hubert - that's got it. The system had put the files in:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Battlefront\Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg"

instead of:

"C:\Program Files\Battlefront\Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg"

Once I put them in the correct directory everything worked just fine. Many thanks for your help.

Iron Ranger - you'd better buy a lottery ticket 'cause you've got some good karma going on!

I patched my game to v. 1.08 as I was also having the Direct x7 problem. That seems to have been put right now but I also can't run the game because the message "elicenc40.dll not found" appears. I have full admin rights to the computer, and the patch is installed in the correct directory. Any thoughts on how I could fix this?
