IIntrude
I used to be a huge Combat Mission Fan, I played the original, wearing out 1 disc and having to order a 2nd. After Afrika came out I lost touch with it, school was ramping up, work was picking up, etc... Then out of the blue today I remember the name Battlefront. So I google it to see if the company was still around, and low and behold my surprise and joy they are still going strong, with a new game out to boot. I immediately purchased SF and Marines. I just wanted to say hi again to a community I so often frequented years ago. Just curious, I didn't see this anywere, when did SF and Marines actually come out? Also any must haves I should look into, new BF games or mods for SF? Much appreciated.
MikeyD
I just checked the dates on my old brz files. It looks like CMSF was first released late June 2007 (wow, time flies), Marines first showed up Sept 2009. The v1.11 build you're playing now only came out mid-December. If you're an old CMx1 guy you must know about cmmods.com for mods and scenarios. BFC just recently started their own mod download site on their main battlefront.com called Repository.

Wow I was out of the loop longer than I thought...I have a lot of catching up to do. TY for the info and also for reminding me of the mods sites. Any particular modders to keep an eye out for now a-days?
MikeyD
For mods, the top of my list has got to be Gordon Molek's NATO and Russian painted vehicles. They really are fantastic. I've got my hand in there too. I've got 6 scenarios up on cmmods.com, I redid the yellow vehicle IED as a Baghdad taxicab. My 'Syrian Spy Pack' expands the game's spy skins, including one 'goodfella' in a red polyseter track suit and gold chains! But I'm only a minor player in CMSF mod land. There's some really original stuff out there that actually impacts gameplay.
IIntrude
So far, I am really enjoying the game, however it is bringin my machine to its knees, only getting 20ish frames much of the time. DC 3ghz 4 GB RAM Vista 64 Raideon 4870 I run AoC, Crysis, and most of the newest games at high lvls, SF is really humbling my system. I turned off shadows, but even at Balanced details I am only getting 20-40 fps. Playable for sure, just not what I was expecting.
Cpl Steiner
So far, I am really enjoying the game, however it is bringin my machine to its knees, only getting 20ish frames much of the time. Hi IIntrude, You are not alone! My system can handle most games with graphics settings maxed out but for CM:SF I generally play it on Improved 3D Models/Improved Textures now due to frame-rate issues. Trust me, the problem has been looked into a great deal by BFC, and they have done a number of optimizations from patch to patch which have helped. However, as of yet, the ultimate "fix" seems to have alluded them. I live in hope though, and since v1.11 the game is actually pretty good even on "Improved/Improved" settings.
MikeyD
'Improved/Improved' is the 3rd highest of the seven resolution choices. If you REALLY want framerates there's always the choice of 'fastests/fastest'. And about the 20ish fps framerate, lets not forget a movie runs at 24.
stoex
Frame rates are really dependent on your view on the battlefield as well as map size and number of units/waypoints. When I get up close and personal with my grunts and tin cans, there's rarely a problem for me. Frankly, I prefer Max detail level and 20ish FPS with an occasional snag when moving the camera to the alternative, simply because things look so DAMN good at max details .

Field Marshal Blücher
If I can get 20 fps, that's fine with me. You really don't need any more for CM:SF. Heck, I'm fine with 10.
