Redwolf
Subject says it all. Is there anybody who uses a X800 series card with CM? I would like to confirm whether the rumors are true that this card doesn't run the game at all (at least not in color).
Redwolf
This is from another forum. At least the demo works. This person successfully ran the CMAK demo on a X800 XT PE: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=1505320&STARTPAGE=1
Roach
I recently started using an X800 Pro VIVO (Asus) and I haven't had any problems running any of the CMs - well not yet anyway!
WalterW
What about the fog ? With the Radeon series it was/is not possible to get any fog in CM. So far I remember there's an official statement on this board telling that Radeon cards (or at least its drivers I'd say) don't support FogTable emulation under DirectX and therefore its not possible to get CM fog with these cards. Roach, can you run a quick test for us/me and tell us if the fog shows up in CM with your X800 ? Thanks a lot in advance [ February 09, 2005, 11:54 AM: Message edited by: WalterW ]
Schrullenhaft
I highly doubt that fog-tables will be available with the latest Radeons. The issue really isn't the hardware, but the driver support. The same Radeon hardware supported fog-tables on the Mac under QuickDraw RAVE 3D. The Mac side of the ATI house decided to implement fog-table support, but the PC side decided against it (at least for DirectX). With the X-series of Radeons I doubt that ATI's driver development has decided to support fog-tables (under DirectX). While it is a remote possibility that they've decided otherwise, I believe that they're sticking to their commitment to support only vertex-fog effects, which is what most current games (with a limited horizon) have been coded for. All of this should be a non-issue with CMx2 which will most likely use OpenGL and other non-fog-table methods of generating fog-effects.
