John Kettler
A very old weapon technology has reappeared in Iraq, a technology so old the reporter didn't even notice it. The weapon is called an IRAM (Improvised Rocket Assisted Mortar), and it's nasty. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/aug/28/new-threat-to-troops/ At a conceptual level, though, it most nearly resembles one of the earliest means for hurling gas in bulk--the Livens Projector. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Livens_Projector Thought everyone here would be interested. tiny_tanker
Except its actually just an improvised rocket, not a mortar at all. I suppose you could compare the two John, but it reality the propane cylinders are only used because they are plentiful, cheap and a good size for a large amount of explosives and concealment in a truck. The use of a gas cylinder is more of a coincidence than anything else.
