TufenHuden Posted September 9, 2004 Share Posted September 9, 2004 Well on my old PC I've tried swapping Vid cards that worked once then bam-when I restart PC in the last stage to boot up, I get Windows protect error,restart you computer-press any key to continue-I press ant key several times then get a long and continous beep that doesn't stop-hit reset button and when booting goes right to save mode-my nortons email protection and scripting was shut down and I didn't shut it down-so I download AVG grisoft free anti-virus befroe this happened did a virus scan and came up with 20 trojan virus- couldn't get rid of them-so they where contained in the virus vault-then when I shut down and rebooted then that problem started(Windows Protect error)-I have Windows 98SE-MS explorer-6.1-had all the updates-spyware-nortons antivirus- did updates like 3x a week-and bam-I was told some Virus's shut down you virus scan-is there anything I can do without reformatting-Thank You. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
GJK Posted September 9, 2004 Share Posted September 9, 2004 "Windows protection error" at boot-up are caused by missing or corrupted VXD (virtual device drivers) that are being called by the system. Your best bet is to consult the Microsoft Knowledge Base for detailed information on steps you can perform to *try* and correct the problem.
