Nvidia finally fixed...

Recommended Posts

I downloaded the latest version of Nvidia drivers & it looks as if they finally fixed a persistant CM related bug. Ever since the 52.16 drivers, the unit information/orders menus/panels in CMBB & ( later ) CMAK would appear slightly transparent or translucent ( dust/smoke graphics would show through & make it a little difficult to see the print if I opened either menu or panel near a burning building/vehicle ). This would also occur with units occupying buildings ( opening the orders menu for a unit inside a building ). Well, it looks like this pesky little bug has been addressed & corrected.

I have a Geforce FX 5500 OC ( 256 MB ) & previously had a Geforce 4 MX 420 ( 64 MB ) in my system & this problem occurred with both cards. No problems ( yet - knock on wood ) with these new drivers. Just though I tell others in case they experienced the same thing.

P.S. These new drivers are WHQL logo'd ( whether that means anything or not I don't know ).

OverClocked. It's a BFG card - factory overclocked - supposed to run faster than a standard card. I always followed the driver installation instructions to the " T " too & always had this problem ( with both cards ) - really quite annoying  . At any rate it's gone now ( never to return I hope ) & I'm pleased. smile.gif

It's possbile that that they did clean up some old crap left behind. I can't tell as I haven't a clue about this stuff. I just download the drivers, follow the instructions & hope everything works out all right. As it stands unless something goes seriously wrong, I'll be sticking with these for quite a while.

Redwolf: Nope, I've never reinstalled Windows. I have XP ( & SP 2). I first ran into this issue with the 52.16 driver set back when I had the Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 420 installed. Someone else ( I can't remember who as it was some time back ) said that they'd had the same problem.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had the same problem, Rob. I had first installed 'the official' update only to find out I now had the invisible text problem. Downloaded an 'unofficial' version of the drivers and it fixed the text problem, but now had the smoke visible through the unit info popup also. The latter was the lesser of two evils.

EDIT: Now I lost the overclocking tab in my card settings. Anyone know where I can find the utility again?

No. Not one bit. Was happening before I upped the clock speed. "Oveclocking" is a misnomer - most vid card manufacturers don't bother checking the upper safety limit, and undershoot it by quite a bit. This 'overclocking' program is an nVidia add on, leaves a comfort cushion, but not excessive.
