John Kettler
Never knew this before, and thought the devs and the grogs here would be interested. Important feature for night ops! Great pictorial detail. Stockpile situation looks critical. http://www.com-central.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6934 KwazyDog, Forgive me for this one. More work! Armor glassed in driver position. http://www.com-central.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6849 The Bradley we saw hit in the video was occupied! http://www.com-central.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6459 M1 and several Stryker types, one with apparent mine rollers. http://www.com-central.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6167 Regards, John Kettler

John Kettler
panzermartin, Actually, they said they thought the article referred to the incident. The original posters may or not be right, but it was new information to me. Guess I'll have to go back to the video and rewatch it. unsobill, Tanks and AFVs have and have always had blind spots, some quite severe. The Bradley's very tall. This means that once you're close, the buttoned Bradley crew can't see much of anything, and the article indicates that applique armor makes the problem even worse. As for hearing while buttoned, do you think Bradleys have external microphones or something? Unless the vehicle's unbuttoned, I doubt the crew can hear much of anything through inches of armor and armor overlays. MikoyanPT
If the article refers to this particular incident, it certainly implies the vehicle was occupied and the crew escaped unarmed. It wouldn´t´t make sense the reporter write, a "ocupied" vehicle was attacked by a bomb planted beside it. Why ? Because the reader allways assume a vehicle on a mission is occupied and not abandoned. And vehicles certainly have lots of blind spots, you have to keep them moving or protected by good old infantry, or it will be only a nice big target. And in that video, the cover was everywhere to the bad guy to use. He was bold, yes, smart, absolutely. Aniway, vehicles can be replaced, big factories meke them, the crew staying alive is much more important.
John Kettler
Have just watched the video twice more here and frankly, am confused. The Bradley, which has full ERA fitted, does indeed have the day/night sight assembly wide open, but I saw no signs of hatch movement. I think this may be the result of camera movement's being misperceived. Am not sure whether it's a CFV or an IFV, but neither model still has the infantry firing ports for the M16 variant, and I believe only the IFV has the MG port on either side. With ERA fitted, even that may no longer be true. In any event, viewing options to the side are pathetic from the main compartment and not great from the turret, given that the top of the hull is already taller than the insurgent when he stands erect. Huge blind spot in close! The attacker is clearly acting as though the Bradley's occupied. Note particularly how low he stays when approaching from front and how he stays up close to the vehicle. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=cb4_1174174085 Some potentially useful insights pro and con in the comments, especially here. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=cb4_1174174085&c=1#comments IED vs. Stryker. Waving Islamic flag graphic will drive you mad! http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=c63_1177183468 Mines vs. the same sort of mine roller equipped Stryker I provided a pic of. This attack may well be a command detonated one. Harrowing! http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=328_1180918990 The Stryker whose crew survived a 500 lb. bomb blast. Once righted, the Stryker was still mobile! http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=1acbc8fabb Another attack. This time, it looks like the bomb was set off too soon, but it's hard to tell given depth of field issues. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=d78_1180732562 No miss here, though. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=72e_1172949016 General observation. Insurgent post attack video coverage sucks! Very hard to tell anything useful.
