Whats the ETA on Mission / map building tools and info?

Gday Guys,

I'm now the proud owner of a full copy. Thank you to the team for a great job.

There is however a desperate need for more objective based maps and missions. Is there any eta on when we can expect tools or info on this so we can start making new stuff. I've got some tools i made for map creation in another game which could easily be used for DT maps. Even done things for automated vegetation, Fractal landscape generators, Satelite image to terrain file convertions etc etc.

Q. Is the team willing to think about other mission types and maybe online mini campaign systems?

Welcome aboard, Dark!

Your timing is perfect; I'm doing some final touches on the first big document for building scenarios right now. Based on your experience with terrain generation tools, I think you're going to have a lot of fun building DropTeam scenarios (and I'm aching to have some fun playing your new scenarios!) If all goes well, I should have this document cleaned up and ready to post tomorrow or Monday. When it's ready, it will probably form the first post in a new "Mods" forum where we can discuss these kinds of things in detail.

As for other mission types, you will find that there is already a flexible system for victory conditions. Using the existing system, you can mix and match any number of different victory conditions in your scenarios so you can already create new ways to play outside of the "Objecive", "CTF", and "Territory" game types that have been defined in our scenarios so far. However, I'm sure you will think of new victory conditions that you would like to see added and we are very open to adding new ones for you as needed.

and maybe online mini campaign systems?
Sounds very interesting. What exactly do you have in mind?

Thanks for the quick reply... Can't wait to get editing.

What I thought could be nice for a mini campaign would be a number (lets say 5 for the sake of argument) of maps which are linked. This could be physically like a long strip of land or "spiritually" like a series of planets / moons. Play starts in the Middle map with each side "owning" 2 of the other maps. If one side wins then the map is theirs. If they only win by a small margin then the next mission starts on the same map with them defending and the other team counter-attacking. If the win was by a large margin then the action could start on the next map with the victor attacking into territory defended by the defeated side. Play over 5 missions and see who owns the most "maps". Throw in some attrition and reinforcements and it could be a lot of fun.

Oh and how about a Thor ARV. A bit like the cutter but it can go and interface with crippled vehicles (of either side) and tow them back for recovery.
