Darius
Based on screenshots and movies, T-72 looks promising. The demo left me disappointed. I found it very frustrating. 1. I didn't have the right drivers loaded, so when I tried running the game, it merely blinked and nothing happened. It would be nice to get some kind of feedback if the video/audio can't be initialized (a Windows Message Box?) 2. The DRIVE mission... I spent 30-40 minutes just trying to get the engine to start and run. I kept stalling out. Instructions for shifting up were provided, but none for shifting down. It says I should "fix the throttle at half way" but no indication of how to do that - I tried doing it with the E key? I'm supposed to go to START, but I have no idea where it is (there is a box with the word START above it, but I can't seem to get there). At some point, the box turned into FORD. No idea if I had gotten to START or not. 3. On the driving lesson, I apparently threw a track. I spent 5 or 10 minutes driving in circles and trying to back up before I finally saw my track laying in front of me. Doesn't feel like an introductory lesson to me. 4. Is there a manual? I'm guessing at what keys to hit. As it stands now, I've figured out about 4 or so keys - which makes this demo very dull (I know so few keys, the demo does virtually nothing, except grind around and stall). 5. My progress toward START felt like about 1 game meter per 30 seconds of my real-life clock. I think that is mostly because my engine was barely running and I was in first gear. Not fun at all. Is learning to drive a tank the whole point of the tame? The demo makes it feel that way... It would be nice if there was an 'easy' mode for the demo, so you could get a flavor for what's available, and then an ability to shift into 'moderate' or 'advanced' mode, where you have to be able to shift gears, run the throttle, and chew gum at the same time... Or give me a demo where I can't do anything, but at least you show the keyboard inputs (and their meaning) during a pre-recorded demonstration.
Gregg Gallagher
Darius: Look at the sticky thread above (2nd from top), for the keyboard reference charts.
JudoHedgehog
Do you have a wheel mouse darius? I find it's the easiest way to control the tank. The wheel feeds in the accelerator (you'll see the bar moving) then hold down the mouse button for the direction you want to turn and pull towards you, it pulls the corresponding control stick back (again the bar will move) and the tank will turn. A is shift up, Z is shift down. Don't go too fast over rough terrain or else you may sling a track, save the high speed stuff for roads.
Moon
No wonder that you found the demo frustrating when you did not find the readme file that comes with it. Nor the "Settings" tab inside the game which lists (and lets you adjust) all in-game controls. Everything you wrote boils down to this. JohnCalvin
Driving is the easy part. Wait till you try to fire the tank manually
Pirx
An in-game tutorial would be nice, but not included as far as I can tell.
