rallye72
This question is for the game developer for this title. What official Russian military references were you able to draw on in the design and performance of the T72. For instance were you able to access Russian tank gunnery training manuals, T72 operator manuals, ammunition performance data (from where?) etc ? How did you determine acquisition and engagement time parameters ?
MikeyD
The Cold War's long past and T72's pretty much of a known commodity now. Germany inherited a fleet of T72s after reunification. Everybody and his brother seems to have local T72 production / assembly / modification facilities in their own country. Me, I'm a nobody and even I have got a copy of T72 gun performance tables (no joke)! Its the later versions (T80+) that it might be difficult to get proper stats on.
Moon
Rallye72, according to the developers a number of Russian sources was used. Backguard, frequenting the forum here, is part of the developer CrazyHouse and might list some if you're interested. Like MikeyD says though, there are many public sources for the tanks end units used in the game. Here's one: http://armor.kiev.ua/fofanov/ Martin
rallye72
To those who replied, thanks, appreciate it. I'm a tanker (recently retired). I have some T72 time. The crux of my inquiry was to see if the devloper accessed a no kidding Russian version of what we would call the FM 17-12 series. Those of you who have U.S Army tank time will understand what I'm getting at. A publication such as this (if it exists in a format similiar to ours)would provide a fairly accurate idea of anticipated engagement times (gets to actual gunnery standards, not 2nd or 3rd party guestimates). I know something exists dated from 1988 as I had a guy in the CIS offer to "exchange it" for "other information I could provide" when I made an inquiry in another forum; sorry, no thanks to that one. I've found that virtually no one discusses tank gunnery training (not opinions, but actual extracts of standards) in any forum either "cold war" or WWII. I think it's a key topic that's often overlooked. Thanks for the Fofanov link, had lost it and wondered where he got off to. Cheers, Rallye72
