Buckeye
Hi Charles... Is there any word on the problems folks are having with the display of text with the newer ATI Rage 128 cards on the Mac? This will really put a crimp in Mac sales if it can't be fixed. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! gibsonm
Charles, Buckeye, I think this might be a AST specific problem rather than an OS problem. The thread "1024x768 Resolution lost" talks about a guy who has the same problems with an ATI card in a Wintel box. If he puts a different card in the game works fine. I'll post this to the Ruby iMac thread as well. ------------------ Regards, Mark:-{) Anxiously awaiting the G4 PowerBook
Guest Big Time Software
Just that "it's been noted". This does not lead me to believe that a fix is coming soon, so it's on my list to code up some sort of workaround. Charles
Buckeye
Thanks for the reply, Charles. From what Jobs said in Paris, it sounds like the Radeon card is going to become available for Macs. I hope that's true, and that CM will work on it. It would be a real step up in graphics capability. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
Warren Peace
This seems to an important issue to work around. I had the same problem (black letters on blck background) with both my New G4 at work and my new iMac at home. At work I was able to fix the problem by using older ATI drivers (see my older post). However, on the iMac the same set of drivers is incompatible. Although in theory both contain ATI Rage 128 Pro chipsets, there must be a subtle difference in the iMac which is compatible with only the newest ATI128 driver becuase when I use the older driver I lose the 3D effect (no transparency, low resolution). The older driver works fine on my G4. This is very frustrating. Warren
Buckeye
Isn't it the case that the chipset is part of the motherboard on the iMac but not on the G4? That might be part of the difference. ------------------ "Don't lie to me, Gustav! You're a stinkin' Mac user!"
