Treeburst155
Steppes bmps will not show up on the map at all unless it is over 50-60 % covered with steppe tiles. When it does show, all open terrain takes on the steppes bmps, even non-steppe open terrain. This means the ONLY way you can determine open terrain from steppes is with the combination of view 2 and doodads enabled (and LOS tool). Less than 50% steppes, all appears open. More than 50% steppes, all appears steppes. This even though steppes are better concealment than open terrain. It's all about level two and the doodads, OR never mixing open terrain with steppes when designing maps. Treeburst155 out. Michael Emrys
There are patches of open terrain in the Citadel demo scenario. But I think the only way to identify them is to run the LOS tool over them, or to watch as a unit enters them (that's how I discovered them). Kwazydog
Guys, steppe isnt all that different from open terrain so this isnt a big issue. We had to be a little conservative with textures as even as it is you need a 64mb card to see that game at full detail. Dan
Treeburst155
Yep, the LOS tool and view 2 with doodads is the only way to tell the two apart. So, cemeteries, rocky ground, and steppes all require doodads or the LOS tool to identify. Cemeteries and rocks show up at view 4-5, but steppes doodads definitely don't show up until you're at view level two. Doodads are critical, much like trees must be on to determine "woods" from "tall pines". The difference being you actually have to drop way down to see the steppes. Treeburst155 out. Treeburst155
Hmmm...the wording in the manual kinda sounds like steppes might make for some fairly decent concealment, and rocky ground too. No mention of cemeteries at all in the manual that I could find. Treeburst155 out.
Kwazydog
Oh, it does add concealment along with the cemetary terrain type. Its not like woods or similar though Dan

Kwazydog
You will get higher res textures basically guys. The difference between 32 and 64 is not great, but the textures do have to downsample once on a 32mb card, so they wont be quite as fine as on a 64mb setup.
