LibertyOrDeath
Batch converting the bmp's to 256 colors seems to speed up the scrolling and zooming during the action phase. Are there any other methods of speeding up game play without uninstalling hi-res mods?
109 Gustav
You can turn smoke/explosions to low quality, terrain features to minimum or none, trees to minimum, weather effects off, and shorten the horizon range.

You can also do some selective resolution reduction of some textures ... keep the ones you'll really notice at high res, and change some of the less obtrusive by 50%. For example, the horizon bitmap can be very low res - mine is even at 16 colors! Rooftops are another area I can reduce and not notice. It's all personal preference of course, so be sure to backup what you change.
Cameroon
Here's a big one, turn off sounds. Obviously, during the movie you need sounds on. But at all the other times, the game's speed is improved when the sounds are off. Yup, even turn calculations.
Ace Pilot
Is "Batch converting the BMPs" an easy thing to do? If it is, can someone explain how to do it? Thanks, Ace
Chad Harrison
I will usually turn off the trees on larger maps. That helps my P4 considerably. Also, smoke and lots of shell holes tax a system. Smoke can be turned off, but shellholes you are stuck with! If its a bigger map, you can reduce the horizon with shift-h, that helps also. LibertyOrDeath
Batch converting bmp's can be done with the shareware app Irfanview. It takes a couple of clicks. http://www.irfanview.com
