Splinty
Can anyone tell me if any Flak 37s lasted long enough to make it in the Ardennes campaign?
Peter Panzer
...there were a small number of ostwinds (flakpanzer) attached to the 1st ss in dec. '44. ...from what i gather, the mobelwagon variants were "stop-gap" designs intended to serve until more effective models (flakpanzer IV/20, flakpanzer IV/37 - sporting semi-enclosed turrets rather than mounts with drop-down shields) could be fielded. ...i hope that points you in the right direction. Panzer Leader
In the books "The Devils Adjutant" and "On to Berlin" are multiple references to self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicles. Though the (Allied) perspective rarely mentions the make and model, they sounded like mobelwagons, wirblewinds and Ostwinds to me. Of course, they could just as easily have been the HT or truck mounted units, but I know some of the references mention them being tracked, so to give a half-informed answer, I would say, yes they had them.
