SpazManOught
Well will we? Did any of the axis countries still use tankettes at this stage in the war?
Stalin's Organ
Yes - the Italians used their little Cv8 (I think it is), and IIRC the Hungarians and roumanians also had tankettes of various types. Of course the Russian T-38's and T-40's will be there, maybe T-26A's too - with 2 MG turrets, Komsomlets artillery tractors sometimes used as "armour" support. Michael Emrys
Did the Germans use their Pz. Is in the first year of the war? If I knew, I have forgotten. I do know that they were still using them in North Africa for such duties as recon and convoy escort. Grey Hunter
An interesting thing about Itallian tanks - they unsurprisingly had good engines, but they made a small mistake when constructing them. they bolted them together. there are a few reports of Itallian tanks almost disassembling themselves from hits from HE rounds, as the vibrations shook the bolts loose. rivits come loose most of the time, so bolts are hopeless. Michael Emrys
Worst thing about bolts and especially rivets was that a direct hit on one of them sent it rocketing into the interior of the tank. Michael

Panzer-Division had 12 of them on June 22nd
Michael Emrys
Thanks for the datum, Berli. I have a hunch that there were more on the battlefield, but nothing to go on yet. Michael
