Mad Russian
I know about how the M8 Greyhound was used. I know that the M20 was also a scout car. I know that there were 3,791 built. So where were they used? In recon units? Are they interchangable with M8's? Looking for a few good answers... Panther Commander
dalem
Mostly in Mechanized Cavalry Recon troops I believe. I think there were a couple in SP TD companies too, but I might be wrong there. -dale
guachi
They were used to carry Girl Scouts and their cookies to troops. Hence why they were called 'Scout' cars. Jason
Breakthrough
The M20 was used by the US Army as a scout car in Armd Cav and SP artillery and AT units. Patton had a customized one. US Army TD doctrine envisaged M20s scouting for enemy AFVs then TDs deploying to their best advantage. The CMAK scenario 'Raff to the Rescue!' uses jeeps for this purpose but the idea is the same.
Siege
The M-20 was used for scouting and utility, most were part of the Tank Destroyer battalions. It's hard to use them properly in Combat Mission because you can't model the dismounted scout team properly. Normal dismounted scout team was 4 soldiers armed with M-1 Carbines, 1 of which also carried a Bazooka. Think of it more like an armed APC, along the lines of the White M3 scout car. -Hans
