Question about mortar spotting

Recommended Posts

When you have a HQ having a LOS to a target and your mortar team is in command range but out of LOS to the same target,do you issue the target order to your HQ and then will your motar team fire or do you issue the order to your mortar team directly? Kinda confused on this.Does the HQ order the mortar team to fire when you use the HQ to target?

Issue target to mortar team directly. You will get a yellow/orange indirect fire line from the mortar to the target instead of the normal red one. This tells you they are opening fire while the HQ does the actual spotting.

Remember, if your HQ is in "hide" mode they are unable to spot for mortars.

Not correct. If you use a HQ to spot for a mortar team you'll still get the red/black "out of LOS" targetting line. But you'll see an "area fire" message when the HQ has LOS to the target area.

The targetting line turns orange after you click on the target. If it doesn't something has gone wrong. Either your HQ doesn't have LOS or is hiding, or the mortar is out of command range of the spotting HQ, or something else. But in any case, if the targetting line fails to turn orange, the mortar won't fire. Exception: the mortar will fire if by some freak chance the targetted unit wanders into its LOS.

Use the LOS command on the spotting HQ first, that way you'll get a good picture of it's vision. The key is that it must read "area target" on the spot where you're aiming with the mortar team, as stated earlier.

Also, be sure to give a cover arc to the spotter team, so that they won't start shooting at enemies when they're not hidden.
