Ammo Amounts for the Germans

Need some input regarding playing the Germans because of the very low ammo counts compared to the very generous amount of the yanks etc.

A lot of the German units are very low, 25 and some are around 39-41.

A see a lot of the yanks are around 62 etc.

How does this work out in battle. Is it as clear cut that 62 is 23 more than 39? Will I end up with no ammo so much quicker than the yanks?

Or is it a little more complicated than 62 - 39 = 23?

Which squads do you talk about? Ammo depends on the weapons used. It's not actual ammo, but rather "doses" of fire. A SMG squad runs out of its ammo faster than a rifle squad, but those doses consist of more bullets and so are more lethal at short range.

The low end German squads get through ammo faster due to a higher proportion of automatic weapons such as MG-42 (which use up far more ammo than a BAR) MP40s and MP44s. The Yanks, by contrast, are almost exclusively equipped with rifles and have a large squad size, so they can carry more ammo for the SAW.

I'm not sure that the US ammo load should be as high as it is, as a semi-auto rifle can really eat up ammo quickly compared to a bolt-action rifle like a Lee-Enfield or a Mauser K98.
