MPK
In a previous post, I complained that some winter mods didn't seem to 'work'. Turns out that some mods, when extracted from their zips to the BMP folder, create new subfolders within the BMP folder, which are not read by (in my case) CMBB.exe and thus do not show up when you play. So...you need to make sure that the Modded BMP's are really in the BMP folder... I'm probably a lone babbling idiot, but thought I'd better post this solution in case someone else has the same problem.
DEY
You shouldn't ever extract the contents of a packaged mod directly into your games BMP folder, there is the problem as you stated about alternated options included, also the included .txt files plus screencaps and in some cases addition pics. Your BMP folder will be a hell of mess after doing this several hundred times. You should always make a temporary working folder to extract the mod package too, then look things over in that folder to decide whether you want to use this or that option included or just the default number set, then copy over the number set only into your CM game BMP folder, IE: 12200.bmp to 12250.bmp. Doing the above will help keep your games BMP folder clean of all that addition junk included in the mod package, if the mod checks out okay in the game then you can delete the temp folder you made to do the above. The game engine only recognizes numbers so dropping something like alt12200.bmp or 12200_sno.bmp into your BMP folder will be ignored by the game engine.
MPK
I'm more computer illiterate than most, DEY (my wife always maintains that the only things I've learned to do on the comp are surf porn and play games)... Having said that, is there a MOD FAQ for newbies?

MPK
Thanks junk2drive- Gallear's page is great (haven't seen it before...though I am playing one of his hosted Ops; "Ghosts of Napoleon" which is really good, BTW) The Mod Advice is exactly the stuff I should have read first, but hey, you get that.
