How come finnish armor is so similar to rusky?

Recommended Posts

in game, Finland's armor and armored cars are either:

captured from the Soviets:

BT-7 Mod 1937

BT-5 Mod 1934

T-26 Mod 1933

T-26S Mod 1937

OT-130

T-34 Mod 1941

T-34/85 Mod 1944

BA-10

BA-20

T-37 Tankette

T-38 Tankette

bought from the Germans:

Panzer IV H

Sturmgeschütz III G (early)

or bought from the English:

BT-42

Vickers T-26E

apparently the designs for the 'BT-42' and the 'Vickers T-26' are very similar to the Soviet T-26

All the Finns who swarm all over this forum, and none have posted here yet? Come on Prinz Eugen and Keke and Paddington, the wisdom and knowledge of you and your countrymen are needed. :D

Keke, you in particular, being a historian should know about this. Quit shelling my Russians with your Finn battleship guns for a minute and answer 86smopium's question. :D

BT-42 was designed by Finnish State's Gun Factory's engineer Unto Rehnström. It featured a captured BT-7 chassis (which originally was a design of American Walter Christie), with a Finnish-made turret sporting a 114mm howitzer model 1918 which were received from the Brits during the Winter War. The Vickers 6 ton tank is actually what the Soviet T-26 is based on. Soviets bought license for production. The Vickers were originally equipped with 37mm guns, but because of the amicable support & assistance of the eastern comrades, they were upgraded with 45mm guns after the Winter War.

In addition to what is available in the game, Finland bought Landsverk Anti II SPAA from Sweden in 1941. These are the same as the Nimrod that Hungary has.

The BT42 sounds downright nasty. Be fun to see those in CMBB.

Of course, the howitzer couldn't do a thing on a T-34, and it still had as much armour as a BT-7. Also, they had a thing with throwing a track. For these reasons they didn't do very well in 1944.
