Russian Stormtroopers

Recommended Posts

They were issued to pioneers and more rarely to some tank riders. For the pioneers the main idea was protection from blast splinters from their own charges. There were two plates each 2mm thick, total weight about 15 lbs. They were reportedly able to stop 9mm rounds from German SMGs at ranges above 100 meters (some side angle in practice etc), in addition to shell splinters. Wouldn't stop a full caliber rifle or MG bullet that gets a flat hit, though.
