securityguard
A FO is short for Forward Observer. A Forward Observer basicly is the guy(s) spotting the artillery rounds.

llama
I think the British term for this role was, and probably still is, Forward Observation Officer (FOO). Cheers
JonS
What he said (the wooly guy, not the master politician), although it is often shortened to FO. Strictly speaking the FO (or FOO) refers to only the officer, who is authorised to call for fire, but it is also commonly used to refer to the whole party of officer, 2 sigs, a driver, and an ack. And maybe a few other stray bods. * Looks around sheepishly. Whistles. Strolls off trying vainly to look normal *
