The Russians had production problems. Same reason the Germans didn't stop producing the Pz II's or III's until late in the war. The Russians couldn't afford to shut down lines making a particular gun they were fighting with to produce one for 'later'. Redwolf Posted December 12, 2003 Share Posted December 12, 2003 It didn't fit the medium tank which they considered to be much more important than heavy tanks. For the actual heavy tanks they wanted more HE so they chose the 122mm over the 100mm.
