The only way to reinforce them was by ground along the Hell's Highway. Earlier in the day, American paratroopers staged a desperate assault crossing of the Waal River in canvas boats; firmly across they now move on the northern approaches to the bridge in the gathering dusk, as British Guardsmen and US paratroopers to the south make their final attempt to fight through the city and clear the bridge approaches so that the armour of British XXX Corps can relieve the embattled Red Devils at Arnhem. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
