Ales Dvorak
OK. I'm talking about custom maps. How can you decide end of the battle. Or is the number of turns just suggested dimension (size)? A
dugfromthearth
under Parameters you set the duration of the battle in turns.
Pzman
You can set the length of a battle if that is what you are asking. It tells you how to do this on page 154 in the CMBB manual. (I don't have CMAK yet so I don't know where it is in that manual.)
Ales Dvorak
Thanx. But what I mean is why ( for ex. map 1x1 km) has 30 turns and not 40 or 23 turns? Is the number of turns just personal opinion? Under what circumstances you decide number of turns?
Sergei
I suppose you mean scenarios, not QB maps? A lot of things go to the scenario length. Normally it's something like "the time in which the job can be done", depending on things such as distances, terrain, composition and mobility of forces, balance and so on. For example, a battle in which you have to advance 3 km before getting to contact needs more turns than one fought on a 400x400 map. Likewise, a pure tank battle can be shorter than a pure infantry battle, because those are usually decided faster. Usually only play test shows what is an appropriate length.
Ales Dvorak
Sergei, I mean QB maps. Some people use custom maps for QB so I was wondering..... Is there any fast rule for map size vs. size of army vs. number of turns? Thanx Ales
Sergei
Oh. Well, it kinda depends on your preferences... normally 45 minutes ought to be enough for less than 2000 point battles, but maybe if it is a very big map, then add enough time for movement. There is no rule of thumb until someone comes up with such, however.
Lou2000
As Sergi has said, there is no hard and fast rule. However you'll rarely hear a player complain that they had too much time to achieve the job i hand ..... but make it too short and you'll soon know about it After a few playtests you'll get a feel of how long it should be.
