Why do the British have the M5 halftrak and the Americans don't? Are the British M5 and American M4 halftaks the same thing? stevetherat Posted January 15, 2001 Share Posted January 15, 2001 Hey Rob I think US and UK Armies required slightly different things from their armoured carriers. That, and not all halftracks could be made by one company in the timeframe required, thus slight differences. Most (if not all) US halftracks mounted the whopping great .50 cal MG, but the UK halftracks did not (even though they are modelled in CM, I think).
