Superstructure

Recommended Posts

It's the part of a structure built on top of a foundation or base. The bridge/command center of a ship is commonly refered to as a superstructure. Also the exposed portion of bridges is a superstructure. The upper portion of a Jagdtiger where the fighting compartment is located is also called a superstructure.

I think its just a matter of semantics. I would think the Stugs should be considered to have a superstructure, as the top was built seperately and welded onto the chassis.

I've never seen the term precisely defined as it relates to AFVs. But from my readings, I would deduce that it is that part of a turretless (only), enclosed fighting compartment AFV that is above the glacis and tracks. I believe all the AFVs you mention can be said to have a superstructure, but some writers may not use the term in preference to some other.
