Scipio
Can someone tell me what it is? If possible, translate into German? My dictionary doesn't tell me. TX
offtaskagain
It's the part of a structure built on top of a foundation or base. The bridge/command center of a ship is commonly refered to as a superstructure. Also the exposed portion of bridges is a superstructure. The upper portion of a Jagdtiger where the fighting compartment is located is also called a superstructure.
Gyrene
Any part of the main body above the chassis, I'd assume. Gyrene
Michael Dorosh
I'll make you a deal - tell me what the hell I did with my English-German MILITARY dictionary, and I will translate it for you.
Barticus
Would it be a safe assumption to say that superstructure, as it applies to AFV construction, is the fighting compartment in a non-turreted armoured vehicle? Otherwise, would it not just be the turret? B

Scipio
I just wonder - why does the Jagdtiger have it, but the Jagdpanther not? Or the JpzIV, but not the StGIII or IV.

I would think the Stugs should be considered to have a superstructure, as the top was built seperately and welded onto the chassis.
Michael Emrys
I've never seen the term precisely defined as it relates to AFVs. But from my readings, I would deduce that it is that part of a turretless (only), enclosed fighting compartment AFV that is above the glacis and tracks. I believe all the AFVs you mention can be said to have a superstructure, but some writers may not use the term in preference to some other. massimorocca
Or if you are a marxist, all the social and political system are superstructure, while the structure is the economy  Massimo
