Ralph Beaman
What video cards are optimal or bug free for CM and have a chance to upgrade to a 1200 Athlon, Thunderbird CPU. Should i stick with my 320 megs of PC 133 or go with the new DDR ram at 256 megs?

fubar628
I just got a Tbird 1200 with Asus ge2 32 meg, Asus ava266 mb. Using 133 sdram With a similar rig, CM will rock even with all the mods installed. The 1.33 are getting cheaper too. Ram is dirt cheap. get as much as u can afford. 512 meg would be good.
Username
Theres some boards, like the asus a7a266 (sp?) that accept pc100, 133 and also Pc2100 (but not at the same time). This is a good board to move up to if you want to continue using the same memory. Later, you can get 512Mg of PC2100 if you want. Its a little pricey around 160$ US bux. Doug Beman
From everything I've ever read about home computing, unless you're running Windows 2000 Pro, anything over 256 is going to be overkill unless you're doing heavy-duty graphics work. Windows simply doesn't have the memory management necessary to make full use of that much RAM. The same thing applies to dual-processor systems; not many apps are written to take advantage of dual-processors, so what you wind up with is 1 CPU cranking away on your app while the other sits and twiddles its tiny thumbs.
