Displaying the wrong IP Address

Recommended Posts

Just a note on my experience last night.

I fired up a TCP/IP game as the host. When I saw the IP address that CM displayed, I realized that it looked somewhat familiar. The address it gave me was a dummy that is stored in my NIC for use when I play on my friends LAN. Seeing as I was using a dial-up connection, I knew this wasn't going to cut it.

It really wasn't a problem at all for me to get the dial-up IP that I was assigned, but after reading a post yesterday about the CM-displayed IP not changing when the host moved the file to a different IP, I thought I'd mention this. Otherwise, the game ran beautifully!

Im not sure exactly what the problem is, but if you have IP masquerading, its quite difficult to host a game.

To find your real IP adress, you can either run winipcfg.exe or there is a page posted somewhere else on this board that will tell you what your real IP is.
