I had the same problem it took me about 2 weeks to figure it out and I cant remember if it was an ATI upgrade that fixed the problem or one of my extensions (sorry I'm not more help except to tell you that it is fixable) first thing to do is go to "puremac.com" and update all your drivers sprockets,ATI,quicklime, system 9.04 etc I hope some one more knowledgeable than me can help you.

Actualy Rob, "Getting used to it" is NOT an acceptable solution in my eyes. Therefor:

Couple things to try. First is that there is a new Universal Installer

available for Mac installed ATI video cards. That's the good news, the bad

news is in the odd way they have chosen to distribute it. In short, the

haven't, but there are ways to get it and we HIGHLY recommend upgrading any

ATI video card with them. Here is a thread from our Tech Support forum which

goes into detail about how to get them. http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/012650.html

If those drivers don't work then also try the following:

1. If you're running Norton Disklight - turn it OFF.

2. Try setting your desktop to 640x480 before launching CM. If that works,

try 800x600 (or 832x624).

3. The backside cache may be causing problems. You can disable it with

"G3/G4 Cache Profiler" from www.powerlogix.com . I think it's free.

Hopefully one of the above, and the best chance is with the new Universal

Driver will fix your problem.

Rob, you have tried those newer OpenGL drivers? The ones you can only get in that demo or if someone emails them to you?

Look on pangeasoftware.com for the Cro-Mag Rally demo. It has OpenGL 1.2.1 (I think. Doesn't matter what the number is. It's newer.)

Don't know if this helps but I have an iMac 400mhz with 128MB running OS9.0 & disabling the backside cache fixed it for me.The software's free & I put it in my CM folder as you have to remember to switch it off each time.

It seems odd that it would require disabling the cache altogether. I believe the same utilities will allow you to reduce the cache speed as well (though it may not be possible to reduce the cache speed any further in the iMac DVs as I think it may already run at 5:2). Perhaps that would help.

FWIW, I have a G4 running 9.0.4 and all kinds of crap and the game has never locked up (though plenty of other things do occasionally, mostly MS products). Never any problems on my G3/233 before, on 8.6 and 9.0-9.0.4, either.

I suppose you could always use this as an excuse to upgrade to a G4. wink.gif

Edited to add that I also have 256MB RAM, with VM off. Things are almost always less stable with VM on for me. Course, without VM I'm looking at needing another 256MB in order to get my work done.

I have all devices on unique IRQ's...i am OC'd but regardless...i still lock up even if i set CPU back to normal which in turn sets the agp card to recommended speed. I have a SBLive..perhaps i will try to play with sound disabled but that's as bad as not finding a solution at all hehe...no sound..no fun smile.gif

No other apps lock up even if oc'd from 600 to over 810

GeForce DDR card not overclocked
