indirect fire with mortar??

Recommended Posts

Also, you MUST use area target. If you directly target an enemy, you effectively tell your crew to wait until that target appears in LOS and then hit it. This is a command you can give to all units by targeting an enemy out of LOS. So for mortars to "understand" that you want them to fire NOW you make sure you have the yellow area fire target line.

Actually this was changed right after the Demo version was released. In the final version you can now target out of LOS units too and if you are getting the sighting through an HQ unit it will automatically area fire at the location of the unit targeted (In the demo it wont fire at all!).

If you DONT have an HQ unit in place and 'spotting' for the mortar, the mortar team will revert to the behavior as mentioned above...i.e. they will wait unit the targeted unit comes into valid LOS.

Just remember, you have to have a HQ with C&C to the mortar teams and the HQ HAS to have and maintain LOS to the targets (either area or unit). As soon as either is broken the mortars will cease fire. Although the wisest way to use the HQ is to just hide him somewhere where he has a great LOS and stick the mortars teams aways behind him out of site... Works GREAT in VoT!
