The UK is S*** - its official

Recommended Posts

Speaking as a 33 year old Brit who is very proud of his heritage, especially Britains` military feats, I have decided I must comment on the relationships between some of the Brits and Yanks on this board.

I for one, extend the hand of friendship across the pond and am Damn glad that the USA came across in both World Wars. I have made some great friends in the States, even to the point of flying out to visit.

Now then, onto my point in the subject heading. Today, I caught cable news (Sky) only to find a committee for racial equality has decided that the term "British" is essentially rascist....WTF??? Turn on CNN guys and you`ll hear about it. Add to that the following facts:

EVERYTHING is more expensive here than in The States or most of mainland Europe including cars, clothes, food, beer, cigarrettes, petrol (don`t even start on that one!), housing, well..you name it really.

Brit defenders may suggest we have a "free" Health Service - yeah right, check your wage slip and read the amount under "National Insurance"....£70+ month in most cases...ie not free.

Sooo, I`m applying to US immigration...be with you soon Yankee guys..

Wesreidau.....out.

Finally a guy that truly realizes the glory (or lack there of) of Socialism. I've been trying to tell that to the Canadians for years.

Another did pet peeve of mine is that Socialism breeds "lackidasiness", meaning that since the government provides a lot of life's benefits, it leaves little sentiment to work or to better oneslf. Leaving lackluster customer services.

Ummm what does this have to do with Combat Mission?

Incidentally, it's your fault that in the UK we have high taxes (though "low" compared to Europe) and a blinkered national health service, because everyone in the north of England and in Scotland are overwhelmingly Socialist.

Yet the majority of people in England, who pay all the taxes, and constitute the economical engine of the UK, have to put up with this.

Err..where`d the socialist bit come from? I was saying I respected our American breathren (after they`d been getting a beating off fellow Brits) and feel their economic system is far superior to that of the UK? I don`t wanna get into politics here, that wasn`t the intent...maybe time to lock this one up. Sorry I started it now.

That's ridiculous. What was the context? Why precisely was it considered racist? It it's just in the name of the country, then by extension, "Irish", "French" and "American" must also be racist. I'll try to get the BBC's take on it. You know what Sky is like...

The socialist bit?

It's what you freakin' described in your opening post.

That's Socialism to a tee, bub!

So you are of an age to emmigrate to America - and there is nothing wrong with that - but you are a grown adult and you don't know what Socialism is??

Socialism is where your government will take you to the promised land, but it costs you a fortune to get there, and when it is still not in sight, they take more and more of your money.

Capitalism is how people get paid according to what they are worth. So if you want the latter, stop voting for Socialist political parties, and then you can have low prices through competition and low taxes, just like the United States have.

It cant be all bad....England doesnt have Pat Buchanan running for office. If he did get elected, I would be swimming to England. Maybe it wouldnt matter though as eventually he would think England doesnt speak the same language, and there would be a war. =}

In case anyone is interested in understanding the Economic problems of Europe, go to www.mises.org and read the online book "Human Action" by Ludwig Von Mises.

You'll be better off than most Economists reading that book alone smile.gif

I know the thread has nothing to do with CM but hey what the hell.

As an expat living in Norway i for one dream of the prices at home in England let alone in the states. Remember Norway is the land of £4 a pint and spirits only available from a state run off-licence of which there aren't many (no wonder moonshine is so popular). As for cars, even second hand models 5-6 years old cost the earth.

A real socialist system where mr and mrs average get hammered by taxes and duty and people get more than enough money to live on from the state if they can't be bothered to work. Jail sentences are a laugh too, if i were Ted Bundy the absolute worst i would get here would be 21 years in a comfortable cell with cable TV, the chance to get a good education, weekend home visits and out in 14 if i'm a good boy.

Here's the CM bit. It cost me around £14 in duty and 'handling fees' when i went to pick up the game from my local post office.

Simon

BTW, the BBC are running the same PC gone mad story as mentioned above. The idea was that 'British' harks back to our imperial days and is thereby racist...loonacy mad.gif

I would welcome any of our "English" brothers over any time. I have a sneaking suspician, however that the first time that they sit down in a bar and have to choose between Amstel Light, Coors, or Millers Genuine Draft to drink they'll be on the first boat back to the UK!

Cheerio, up the Rebels, and all that! biggrin.gif

It's interesting, the Norweigians apparently like to shop in Newcastle, and the English hop across the channel to shop in France.

Maybe the grass is always greener on the other side. smile.gif

Weird. I hop into a WWII forum and start preaching socialism. smile.gif

And that I do, here in finland we have about the toughest taxation

in the world and as a taxpayer I'm happy about it.

Sure, a professional geek, I could do better in USA. But hey.

We have no real poverty, education is free, health care is cheap.

And for the less fortunate, it's free also.

Think about it, not only did my engineer education not cost me a dime,

but the state even paid me for my troubles.

I've been in New York and London, both had streets full of beggars.

None of that for me, thank you very much.

Its all perspective! The UK is not ****, im sorry but to say that is wrong. How can anyone say that about a country on a discussion board knowing that other Brits are reading it! Its not right. Guess what buddy, I lived in the states and moved to Canada, because I didnt like it over there! Just because I don't like the American system even a little bit doesnt mean that their country is ****, its just not right for me. I like Canada, I enjoy the states to visit, but I would never insult openly America. If you are moving to the states, ok, but don't make fun of the country you are leaving because just because you think it is bad doesnt mean other people do...

I could be off here, but doesn't Finland have one of the highest suicide rates in the world?

And that's a wrap. Discussing the virtues of one form of government over another doesn't have anything remotely to do with CM and more often than not degrades into a My Country Could Beat Your Country style pointless argument.

Each country on this planet has strenghs and weaknesses and perhaps if people would try and learn a little more diversity once in a while, we as a planet wouldn't be in some of the stink that we are in.

This is a forum about Combat Mission. While we have no problem letting some OT threads go on with out the 'padlock -o- fate' this one is already begining to turn sour and I feel like showing everyone what zero tolerance really means.
