General Jack Ripper
I just noticed the Mortar Carrier contains 120mm mortar ammo, but the mortar deployed with it is a 60mm mortar? Is this a bug, or just the Task Force Thunder campaign?
A Canadian Cat
No, it is as in real life. The 120 is used in be vehicle, if they dismount they take a handy 60mm mortar they have with them and leave the 120 in the vehicle. I am pretty sure this has come up before. I have a vague recollection that there is more twists to this as well. Something is different between two formations or two levels in the formation. I forgot the details but it also feels wrong and is also just like real life.
domfluff
Yeah, that's doctrinal. If you notice, at different organisational levels they disembark with 60mm, 81mm or 120mm, depending on where the carrier is from.
domfluff
Actually, that's not quite right - the Battalion mortar squad has the 81mm when dismounted, and the Company mortars have 60mm when dismounted. Both obviously have 120mm when mounted. Presumably that's entirely to do with intended engagement ranges/set up times, etc.
domfluff
Interestingly, they seem to have lost that ability by Black Sea. Perhaps they realised that they weren't using the dismounted teams? Strykers were pretty new by CMSF, so their doctrine would have been (and presumably still is) in flux.
akd
The 81mm and 60mm mortars for the Stryker Battalion are still in the most recent TO&E. The recon battalion is a bit different.

Thanks.

I remember seeing that somewhere, but this is the first time I've used to mortars so extensively I am noticing it for the first time. I plumb just ran out of 120mm, and now I have some 60mm to play with too. Pretty nice.

That is very glass half full of you You could argue that they should ditch the 60 and it's ammo and instead increase the load of 120mm ammo.

But then I couldn't haul it around on foot, and use it to smash this stupid HMG position that's been bothering me.
