jpinard
Just wondering of there is a difference in color quality - if you run the game at 32-bit color depth as opposed to 16-bit color depth?
von Lucke
I run everything in 16-bit. Most games are only coded for 16-bit, the voodoo cards only support 16-bit, and there's less of a performance hit in 16-bit. And frankly, I could care less if I see 75 different shades of puce, as opposed to only 40.
Guest Madmatt
The game is done in 16 bit. You gain nothing running in 32 bit. Madmatt p.s. I guess you don't lose anything either though... ------------------ If it's in Combat Mission, it's on Combat Mission HQ! Smoker
I thought I was the only one around who actually prefers 16 bit color. My reasoning is the same as yours von Lucke. ------------------ Smoker out.
howardb
I usually run all 3D games in 16-bit because you don't gain that much gfx quality compared to the drop in frame rates. The thing I've noticed in 32-bit is the lightning effects though. Some games (like Q3:Arena) runs great in 32-bit because it supports T&L but this is really a matter of preferences. Test both settings in 3D games and if the game runs smooth who not use the 32-bit?
ThomasZ
I'll just add a bit to the thread. If your running a game that supports 32bit color and you run a Gforce card you might as well use 32bit color. I've seen little to no framerate slowdown when doing so since the Gforce was made to run 32 bit color. HOWEVER, most games don't support 32 bit color so, you don't gain much. howardb
I tried Vampire in 32-bit and it was unplayable. I got a P2-450 w/128 MB RAM + Geforce for the record.
