ikalugin
MRSI can be achieved by pen and pencil using a 2S3. The networking of artillery and recon means happened since late 70s/early 80s with the introduction of Manevr and other command systems (which, with their desighn and production companies, died in early 90s). cbennett88
On 8/27/2016 at 5:59 PM, ikalugin said: The boxes house radar, which measures external ballistics of the rounds fired to improve accuracy, as well as to transmit data to guided rounds in flight. Not that I disagree with what you've stated(since it is exactly what I had speculated earlier)but...can you elaborate on your source?
ikalugin
It is the internet. If you were looking for references - watch the film posted in the OP. At ~00.02.50-00.03.00 and from 00.28.30 they discuss this for example.
John Kettler
This may or may not be related, but the Aistenok system from Almaz-Antei has the Russian artillery community's highly positive attention. "The “Aistenok” mobile radar system is designed to carry out surveillance of mortar firing positions and to monitor 81–120 mm mortar fire along the mortar shell flight trajectory; to survey tank type moving surface targets and monitor 122–155 mm artillery fire by shell explosions." http://www.almaz-antey.ru/en/catalogue/millitary_catalogue/1219/1242/1330 Further research indicates this isn't likely to be what's in the boxes on the Koalitsya-SV, but it is still, I think, good to be aware of. https://in.rbth.com/economics/2015/03/31/new_portable_radar_to_help_reduce_battlefield_accidents_42295 Especially since it's been given to some men in Donetsk! http://en.censor.net.ua/video_news/320148/russian_army_in_donetsk_uses_latest_artillery_position_reconnaissance_radar_aistenok_video_photos Regards, John Kettler
