A question about Mods

Lesson one: mods work the same in all three CM games.

Lesson two: mods only affect how things look or sound; not how they perform. For example you can mod a Tiger tank to look like a firetruck, but it will still function as a Tiger tank.

Lesson three: none of the games come from Battlefront with winter mods of the units (e.g. vehicles, infantry and guns). Therefore, you should start with these types of winter mods because you will not overwrite any of the original files.

Lesson four: all visual mods are placed in the BMP folder of the game that you are modding and all sound mods are placed in the wav folder, unless you have downloaded and installed a mod-manager. Which leads to...

Lesson five: get a mod manager. If all you play is CMBO, CMMOS is a good choice. Otherwise the clear choice is the McMMM mod manager.

Lesson six: the mecca for obtaining mods for any of the CM games is: http://www.cmmods.com

Lesson seven: back up your files before applying mods. In fact it is a good idea to back-up your entire BMP and WAV folders for each of the CM games you are modding.

Lesson eight: for CMBO only there are low-res and hi-res mods. The hi-res mods are almost always better. For the latter two games there are only hi-res visuals (by CMBO standards). The off the shelf CMBO se version already has many upgraded visuals from the original release of CMBO.

It's worth knowing that both McMMM and CMMOS back up the BMPs/WAVs that they change.

(But it doesn't hurt to have another copy, if you have the disk space smile.gif )
