Support Unit Questions

I have couple of questions about support units:

1. Air support.  How independent is it?  In a few videos I have seen shots of Apaches engaging unseen enemy forces but how common is this?  For example, if there are 4 unseen vehicles, will they engage one, two, none?  It is just a matter of chance?  What about aircraft?

2. Mortars in urban areas, what are they really good for.  I know people will drop 120mm mortars on buildings, but does it really do any good?  What about 60mm?  Are they only good for hitting guys on the roof and smoke missions?

Thanks!

Aircraft will indeed engage targets the player's forces haven't identified or spotted. Choppers will engage whatever targets they end up being able to see but you can help them by having line of sight to more targets because they usually don't spot everything by themselves. Aircraft are largely the same.

120mm mortars will pulverize most of what they hit, and are quite effective against infantry in buildings. Specifically smaller buildings like houses. Larger structures can be brought down by heavy mortar fire, but require a large investment in ammunition to do it.

Light mortars in the 60mm range are something else. They're basically oversized grenade launchers and while they're quite useful against targets without overhead protection they're not so great against targets with a roof over their head.
