I have just made a clean birdsong mod, because I don´t want those distracting guns sounds that don´t come from any real action in the game. Going to upload it soon. But if you want to get rid of the birds too, then this isn´t much help either, of course. Personally, I think no background sound at all is going to sound way too dead.
