  1. I am slowly getting back to playing the games after a very long hiatus from them. I have all of the games, expansions, and all updates. At this time, I do not have any house-rules to speak of except that I like to play Iron level. I do have a DropBox address, so if you are bored like me and you would like to start a small to medium scenario please contact me via PM and we can get something going. I can normally play one turn per day, more if you want.

  2. What I don't understand is why the development team doesn't do more in the way of vehicle/unit/towed artillery-guns expansion packs, as was done for CMBN, for the earlier years of the war. Most of the terrain in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and the Soviet Union from 1940 to 1943 would be pretty much the same as it was in the later stages of the war. As for the desert war, just modify some of the buildings and we have that theater of operations. I also agree that anything dealing with the PTO during WWII should not be considered. As for BS, add NATO units and a few of the newer weapons systems (at least bring back the A-10). Fix the negative terrain elevation so that trenches and weapon pits are more effective and add some additional barriers like dragon's teeth or other concrete obstacles. Just spit-balling.

    I want to start playing some Combat Mission scenarios again. I feel that I have recovered enough from my recent hospitalization to do so. I am bored to tears with reading, watching TV, playing solitaire (cards), posting on other social media sites, or napping. Time for me to saddle up and play some scenarios.

    I have all of the Combat Mission games and all are patched to the current level.

    I ask that any scenario that you play against me be kept in the small to medium sized arena. I prefer Quick Battles but will play stock scenarios or those developed by others.

    My house rules, all games 1) No pre-plotted artillery barrages or air-strikes. 2) CMSF2 or CMBS; no UAVs and no night scenarios.

    World War II scenarios. I prefer playing the Germans but will play the Allies too. I am not very interested in playing the Italians in CMFI/GL.

    CMSF2 or CMBS: I prefer playing the United States/US Marines/NATO/British but will play the Russians/Syrians as well. I haven't tried playing the Insurgents in CMSF2 or the Ukrainians in CMBS, so I have no opinion or preference playing them.

    My turn rate per week may not be quite as high as it was before my hospitalization, but it will still be at least four or five turns per week, maybe more. If you are interested, please send me a private message so that I can give you my Drop Box info.

    So, bring it on. This old warhorse if ready to play.

    Because CMBN does not have the My Docs folder. No matter how many installs you make of the other titles they will all share that one folder making it a space saving place to put mods you would always use.  Every install of CMBN would needs it's own copy of your default mods.

    So using Black Sea as an example.  I would put my sound mods in the my docs/battlefront/combat mission/black sea/user data/mods folder and my TF Spartan Resolve mods in my TFSR/Black Sea install data folder.

    If I run my vanilla install CMBS game it has the sound mod, but not the TFSR mods.  If I run my TFSR install it has the mods and the sound file as well.

     

    I really do appreciate the help, but now I am even more lost than before. What is TF Spartan Resolve? Is this a mod? Sorry for being about as intelligent as a rock but I don't want to screw something up and then have to go back and re-install the games.

    Why don't you have that option with CMBN? I did notice that CMBN installs differently than the rest of the CM titles, at least on my computer it did. The "Games"  sub-folder is in the CMBN folder, not in the "Documents/Game Title/Games" folder. Is that what you are referring to? Second, and please don't think I am stupid, but once you have the numerous sub-folders for each mod in the Z, or ZZ, sub-folder, how do you install them into the game itself. Sorry for asking so many questions but there are some really good mods available that would add so much to the games I have and I don't want to get something wrong. As I said before, this damn thing that happened to me a few weeks back has really screwed up my ability to think. The help is very much appreciated.

  6. I am a bit confused too. I already knew about the issue with how Microsoft handled CMBN but my question is this. In my User Data Folder there is a MOD sub-folder. Should I rename it to Z, instead of what the game installed or should the Z folder be a sub-folder of the MOD sub-folder?

    IIRC artillery of 150mm or larger may bring down a bridge.  Damage to a bridge is cumulative over time.  I once had a knocked out tank burning under a bridge.  When the ammo cooked off in the tank it brought the bridge down. 

    But yes it would be cool if it was possible to intentionally demo bridges in all the titles.  

        

    Too bad about the IEDs. Eh well, make do with what we have. Never know, they (BFC) could come up with something for us concerning this topic for the WW II titles in the future.

    Midwest huh? I am originally from Toledo (born there) but have been living in the southeast for most of my life since my parents and I moved here in 1956.

    Yes, I understand that you couldn't take out the bridge at Arnhem or Eindhoven. And I do understand now that other bridges can be damaged or collapsed much like a building does when it suffers damage from indirect or direct fire. Not sure about the grenade but a satchel charge definitely.

  9. Good morning gents,

    I've only been playing the newest version of Combat Mission since the beginning of this year. In that time I have noticed that direct hits on bridges by large caliber artillery fire seems to do no damage to them, at least they haven't in any scenario I've played. Was this intentional? Also, it would be great if combat engineers could destroy heavier bridges that have pre-placed demolition charges (placed during the scenario set-up phase) and then be able to blow them sky high as the scenario is played. JMTCW.

    Damn, I wish I felt better so I could start working on some maps. I'll just have to let my body and mind decide when they are ready for me to get started.

  11. Actually, my load time for the CMBN editor actually seems to be running faster. So, I don't know why it may be running slower for some. Might be a question of the amount of RAM you have. Right now, I have 16 Gb of DDR 3 running at 1300 Mhz but I'm going to be upping it to a max total of 32 Gb in the next month or so.

They're the only thing that I can transfer from game to game. I just saw GL praised so much on the forum and it feels like the same exact game.     Hey, I love maps too....especially when I am designing them (that's on hold for the time being). I don't know what to say about GL, but I don't really consider it to be the same game as the base FI game. Market Garden was indeed a tremendous addition and I am sure that further expansions to RT, FB, and BS will also be just as grand. Time will tell.

    The CMBN MG module set the bar extremely high in content and bang for your buck. Gustav Line didn't have one map I deemed worthy. I really havent touched FI at all. CMRT looks more promising right now. 

    It also bothers me how the module is advertised as 50 new vehicles when most are just reskins. I understand BF is a small company and I'm not demanding the impossible... but I hate seeing these things. Modern titles are much better value. 

    That being said - I still plan on buying this, as to keep my collection complete. But I am totally prepared to be disappointed again. 

    It is true that BF is a small company, but for them to keep the Combat Mission series alive for as long as they have, almost 20 years now, is something I can't say for other gaming companies that have come and gone. I applaud every single person (code writers, graphic artists, researchers, beta-testers) that work on all the CM titles, whether it is a whole new game or an expansion to an existing one. Being a former member of a development/beta-testing team for a different gaming company I can honestly say that how BF is handling the Combat Mission series is fine by me. They can't please all the people all the time. It would be literally impossible for them to work on new games/expansions to please us all in a timely manner. Yes, it has taken them years in some instances to release a new game/expansion but I am one of those that is patient enough to wait for them. In another post, I mentioned that I felt it was a good idea on BF's behalf to get rid of all the other game titles and let them be sold on Steam. They were stretching themselves far too thin. Concentrating on Combat Mission is a very good plan, IMHO.

    Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Rome to Victory. Tons of new nations and formations, as well as the first WWII title to cover the end of the war. Not to mention CMFI will cover the largest time period of any CM game. I've always had a soft spot for the game as well, so if nothing more I'm looking forward to some new content for it. All of the behind the scenes TO&E work that has been done will likely benefit all of the WWII titles, and hopefully aid in the production of more modules for them.

    Again, double ditto. Might I add, as far as continuation of CMFB, I think an expansion dealing with the end of the war (for the US and western allies) from after the Bulge to the crossing of the Rhine would definitely be in order. I am sure that this is the plan going forward, but off course I could be way off base.

  15. I have placed my order for CMFI: Rome to Victory. What really caught my attention was one particular screen-shot, of the Brummbar. I like how the anti-tank skirts are all cattywumpus and look like they have seen some use, not like they just came off the factory floor. Also, I noticed in the TO&E that India is one of the nations included. Does this mean we are getting the revered Gurkha? That would be cool. All in all, I think that $35.00 is a fair price for this expansion to CMFI.

  16. Hello everyone,

    This post is for those members that I am currently playing scenarios with. For the time being, I am going to have to bow out of those scenarios. So, I am willing to forfeit any kind of win on my part to you. I just don't have the energy right now to sit here at the computer and play turns for those scenarios. I know I have posted a lot lately, but those posts only take me a couple of minutes at the most to write. Plus there is the added attraction that I must have suffered some type of brain damage when I had my near-death event two weeks ago, as my level of analytical thought and concentration are nowhere near what they were before the event. I hope you all understand and I miss playing the best game against some of the best opponents I have ever played. Don't worry, I will return.
