I've noticed if I receive armoured re-reinforcements there is a noticeable drop in performance. In general scenarios with plenty of armour suffer severe performance hits. Not so much with larger infantry engagements.

A possible issue with LAVs in SF2 as pointed out by Hapless. It's mentioned shortly after 16:10

I've got permission from BFCElvis to post about something a little to the side of this content.
Fixing the Hedgerow Bug
It's perhaps most prevalent in CMBN given the abundance of hedgerow maps/scenarios but applies across all titles for infantry behind hard cover. You may have noticed my Green troops in this battle have not been running away or into the streets towards the enemy during these firefights with the Soviet infantry.
This whole DAR has been using a version of the F&R beta that includes some tweaks to the TacAI to address infantry bolting from cover when coming under small arms fire. Infantry that come under small arms fire are more likely to seek cover and 'cower' rather than displace, even when pinned/rattled. Infantry are more likely to bolt when under attack from high explosives... (which let's face it makes sense. )
The changes I've noticed:
- It becomes very hard to dislodge infantry already set up in a building or behind a wall. Even when you lose LOS/LOF there's a good chance your opponent is still there. (I've joked it's going to take naval shells to dislodge Veteran troops).
- Getting the jump on the enemy while they are moving / before they are set up and ready to seek cover still causes morale to collapse very quickly. Case in point: like when most of my Pioneer platoon evaporated under SMG fire within 30 seconds.
- Infantry taking persistent casualties will still suffer morale damage over the long term. Like my Volkssturm surrendering after a solid five minutes of constant rifle fire back and forth.
- Expect longer drawn out firefights in urban and hedgerow maps. That also means watching those ammo counters more closely.
- High explosive and flame options just became a lot more valuable in urban combat. Close quarter AVRE or M12 GMC anyone?
Still being tested and subject to change but there are positive signs among the beta testers so far.
All for now.
Just for clarity has there been any tweaks at all to Tac AI's reaction to HE explosives?
In my admittedly limited experience the "hedgerow bug" was far more prevalent as a reaction to HE explosives than small arms fire.
While I appreciate the efforts so far it is disconcerting issues like squads running off to be slaughtered because a explosive went off somewhere in the vicinity might still remain.
Edit: I see you have shed more light on this issue while I was typing this up. Thanks

I, personally, would be very careful about assuming the bug will be fixed anytime soon. It took the company almost 2 years to fix the HE bug from 3.0, and all that fix did was introduce this new (now too old) hedgerow bug. Or maybe both bugs are different manifestations of some singular root cause. Who knows. The point is, over the last 4-5 years BFC has been in no apparent hurry to fix what are often times game-breaking bugs.
The HE bug... the hedgerow bug... the bridge bug... the team-members-staying-behind bug... the halftrack-gunner / tank commander 'issue' (which I don't think can properly be called a bug, but is still pretty immersion-wrecking)... unbelievably stupid spotting anomalies (like the one discussed in rocketman's current thread)... and there are other issues I'm forgetting, too, I'm sure. Most of them, sadly, still exist, and that's despite literal years of discussion about them on this form.
I've been playing CM a little more lately, after a much needed hiatus, and all I can say is... yeah, I'm remembering why I needed to put the game down for awhile. It's very disappointing. Hopefully BFC can either get it together and fix these kinds of things, or just call it a day with CMx2 and move on to CMx3.
I suspect it's a manifestation of the same issue. In the Fire and Rubble DAR it's recently been confirmed that changes have been made. Please refrain from posting about it there and derailing the thread though
I agree there is valid criticism about the amount of time it takes to sort out bugs. Especially the more minor issues that aren't complicated and requiring time intensive play testing. Still lets not lose sight of the fact a lot these bugs stick out because BFC gets so much right in the first place.

Spare a thought for those of us who also have to deal with exchange rates. Recently the price went up 20% for me in the space of a month. Fortunately things have started to recover lately.

I recently had a rage quit associated with the infantry movement bug. I had a squad of inf move into a building 30 ft away that was occupied by friendly troops. Instead of running straight through the back door they decided to run around the building to the front, and since this wasn’t enough to take casualties they decided to keep running in a big circular pattern before trying to run back towards the front door and all got mowed down. Also in just about every mission I play regardless of which CM title I am playing there is the odd bug where one member of the team becomes detached and just sits in one spot not following the rest of the squad.
I seem to remember reading in one of these many infantry bug threads that this issue was resolved like a year ago but BFC doesn’t release small patches. I’d be willing to pay $10 for the patch so BFC if you’re listening hit me up because this is a very annoying bug especially if there is already a fix for it.
I'd imagine it's been addressed with Fire and Rubble being so focused on urban warfare. I can then justify splashing out on SF2 which would be awesome.

It's been a while since I've played such a large PBEM or even one with so many vehicles, here's a little vignette AAR from my recently concluded match with @gardar15.
Read it here: https://rinaldiaars.blogspot.com/2020/05/equilibrium-black-sea-vignette-aar.htmlThat was a great AAR. Very informative. Looking forward to your next effort

A particularly brutal scenario even by CMFI standards. Degenerated into a surrender-a-thon as both sides try to throw in the towel first.

Two men carry barrels containing human waste through a rice field. Human waste was a common fertilizer in rice cultivation in Korea. In addition to recording the war effort, Williams traveled to small towns, villages, and farms to capture the spirit, culture, and individual personalities of the Korean people, whose lives were dramatically affected by the war.

A Korean game would be fun in terms of the vehicles and units, but I could imagine the terrain would be a bit off-putting - hills, forests, cities, and farmland full of muddy, impassable rice-paddies.
On the contrary. Makes it even more enticing.

I live about a mile from the beach. Thought I might take advantage of the 6am to 9am "exercise allowance" period to take a walk to the beach., Then again maybe not....

Whether or not you find the inspiration you're seeking, this is an excellent read, as are all of West's books, IMHO. I believe it's still on the Commandant's reading list. No True Glory (Iraq), The March Up (Iraq), and The Wrong War (Afghanistan), are also excellent books. As a combat Marine and former ASD, he has a valuable perspective. Jim Mattis thought enough of him to have him co-author Call Sign Chaos. Hope you enjoy!
I can envision a "The March Up" inspired SF2 campaign titled 'the intrepid adventures of a yellow SUV'

Thanks I'll check out Fauda. For those interested in the subject may I suggest the book 'Rise and Kill First: The Secret History of Israel's Targeted Assassinations'.

Apparently smokers are less likely to be hospitalized. It increasingly looks like it's the human body doing the dirty work not so much the virus itself.
QuoteFew of those hospitalized with the coronavirus are smokers, and researchers are trying to understand why, according to VICE.
One hypothesis is that nicotine, which has anti-inflammatory properties, may interfere with the way that COVID-19 causes an overreaction of the immune system.
The hypothesis comes from Konstantinos Farsalinos, a cardiologist in Greece who focuses on tobacco-use reduction. Farsalinos noticed that few COVID-19 patients who were hospitalized in China were smokers, though about half of men in the country smoke.
Farsalinos and colleagues wrote a new paper available as a preprint and scheduled to be published in Internal and Emergency Medicine. They found that among 13 studies in China with nearly 6,000 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, the rate of smokers ranged from 1.4% to 12.6%. No studies recorded e-cigarette use.
“The results were remarkably consistent across all studies and were recently verified in the first case series of COVID-19 cases in the U.S.,” the authors wrote, calling for an “urgent investigation.”

I have to be careful because of the NDA. But essentially it's that units in real combat during WW2 did not provide a continuous play-by-play on the position and status of every single enemy unit they can see to every friendly unit they are in contact with. If they can actually see an enemy the enemy can at least potentially see them back, so getting on the radio to tell Lt. Scrub "you know that Panther that was parked next to the barn? It drove 120 meters to the southwest, stopped and killed 3 of my men. Thought you'd like to know" would usually not be a priority.
If course that doesn't mean that sort of information was never shared in the heat of battle. A dismounted squad of Soviet tank riders that was just in LOS of a German tank is certainly going to tell the T-34 crew all about it when they mount back up. But the game doesn't do that. Personally I think the current model is too conservative to be of much use but that's just me.
Thanks. It's always a balancing act trying to get an realistic representation of battle with these things.
I agree that's it's too conservative. Rather jarring that a squad in a quiet sector can't inform, face to face, another unit of an enemy's current position if that unit's older position was already reported. Especially when that's exactly what you've envisioned them doing as part of your overall battle plan.
If possible maybe have whether location intel is shared based on whether communicating units are currently engaged or not.

A pity his medical teams don't get the same level of PPE, mind you our UK staff don't either...
Only after first wondering around wards unprotected with a doctor that soon after tested positive for Covid19. Lesson learned
Meanwhile our leader graciously demonstrates how to put on a mask....

My first CMFI video...
Excellent thanks. Always interesting to see how other players tackled a scenario once you yourself have completed it.
In this case rather depressing given how few casualties you suffered in comparison to my effort. Although in my defence it was only my 3rd CMFI scenario.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately that's a different tank spotted by the HQ Sherman earlier.
The significance of this bug depends on if the contact info, including current location, is being shared and it's just not showing or if the info is not being fully shared.
Did the problem crop up every time in your tests? Info sharing was working fine initially in this scenario.
