I'm not going to get in a fight with either of you. I'm actually trying to be conciliatory to you both ❤️

I think forum etiquette is important, especially on the topic of war, which combines the twin topics of politics and death in their most tragic form.

You both appear to be new to the forum, so you may not have seen how unpleasant these political arguments can get. It's just best if we stick to the game - like heated arguments about whether the Bren Gun is better than the BAR 😛

One non-game related post(IIRC)  in two and a half years ain't bad. The second post is on you 😏

This tit-for-tat squabbling is how threads get shut down, which is annoying for the rest of us.

Yet you decided to entertain his attempts at whitewashing Soviet crimes.  Ironically I wouldn't have bothered to reply otherwise.

Anyway I have said my bit.

Somehow I missed this brilliant post.

Thank you for commemorating 27 millions Soviet people who died fighting Nazi Germany.

Unfortunately, while destroying 90% of German forces during 4 year bloody combat, Russians were not as humane and gentle as Allies, who deliberately bombed cities and killed 600,000 German civilians, including 76,000 children

Indeed, they merely exchanged one tyranny for another. Soviet tyranny came with free education and free healthcare, while German rule came with depopulation, eradication of national intellectuals and elimination of the education system.

It was a real tragedy for Eastern Polish Jews to be under Soviet occupation, because they didn't share the joys of German treatment in Western Poland.

Since you insist on continuing this  off topic discussion.

I don't think fighting Nazis offers the Soviet military a clean slate for their acts of aggression and crimes against not only their own people but their neighbours.

Neither do I equate the Allies whose acts were committed against targets with the intention of ending the war and freeing the people or Europe with that of the  Soviet Union who deliberately targeted the peoples of Poland and the Baltics  with acts of mass murderer to terrify them into submission. All the while allied with the Nazis. It's frankly absurd to try equate the two.

Sorry your  "we're great because we fought Nazis, after being content to first align with them, and because our crimes against humanity didn't quite match theirs " argument doesn't fly with me.

You are of course entitled to your opinion.

  4. While I agree there was a degree of so-called "wehraboo-ism" about the German military there are now those going too far in rehabilitating the conduct of Soviet army.

Lets not forget the Soviet military initially invaded Poland along with their Nazi allies and committed the Katyn massacre. They also invaded the Baltic countries who joined the Eastern Poles enslaved under a genocidal regime.  All in line with the The Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact.

Lastly Soviet soldiers did not liberate Eastern European countries but merely exchanged one tyranny for another. Many of those same "liberating" Soviet solders would later turn their guns on the people of Hungary and Czechoslovakia.

This might explain the new rules?

The joys of a democratic process undermined by foreign interference, lies and a populist right wing liar whose simplifying message is broken down into 3 word sound bites used to emote feelings of a lost world....

The consequences are now being felt as these teething problems are being highlighted.

    Project reality...

    It could be worse?

Ultimately there's a point where the worse it gets the cheaper CM games on steam will become. As is the case in our failing banana republic where we enjoy considerable discounts on many steam games including CM which we get to enjoy between rolling blackouts....

  6. I've done a quick test.  2 Shermans vs 2 Pz3Ms at around 800m facing each other and giving the Shermans an area target at about 60 degrees. Both Shermans when engaged and hit broke their area targets and engaged the Panzers.

However in a second test if the Shermans were given a slow movement forward order with an area target off to 60 degrees they then ignored the incoming hits, maintaining their area targets  and continued on their way until destroyed or abandoned.

  7. With the latest patch I've noticed armoured units are not overriding area targets to engage with armoured threats even after taking hits. Pretty sure that was the case before. Below is an example of this odd behaviour.

Note also both Shermans, the one on the left had it's main gun damaged a few seconds before the clip started recording, fail to retreat despite taking damage. Come to think of it I don't recall seeing any tanks retreat after taking damaging hits in the scenarios I've played since upgrading. Half-tracks yes but not tanks.

  8. Just had the satisfaction of taking out 2 PzIVs with a Greyhound, side on at 120 meters. Turns out the 37mm is remarkably effective against PzIVs even later models. At least according to this source....

At 86.1 mm thick on the front plate, the 37mm M3 gun would have had a difficult time penetrating unless at point blank range and the 75mm would fail at longer range. The mantlet is also not much protection at 50.9mm effective, the 37mm could penetrate the front of the turret at ranges over 1500 yards.

The pipeline after RT, per Steve:

    • CM Final Blitzkrieg Module.  This will take the Western Front from the Rein to the Elbe.
    • CM Black Sea Module.  Picture US Marines, Ukrainian VDD, and  Russia VDV forces added to the mix.
    • CM Red Thunder Battle Pack.  A bunch of battles for the late Summer 1944 time period was started a while back and is now moving forward again.
    • At least one more Battle Pack, yet to be determined.

but not necessarily in that order.....

  10. Disheartening after waiting an age for the 'leave good cover when under fire/rout towards the enemy' bug to be fixed only for another major bug to crop up. Hopefully this will be addressed ASAP with a fix rather than set on the back burner while other more minor bugs are identified and then all fixed with a patch months down the line. The other downside of which is the odds of another major bug cropping up again.

For those of us without the NATO module there is still 37mm's excellent Heaven & Earth 'Super-mod' free of Javelins  to keep one occupied until this is fixed.

As a sort of long time fan (since CMSF1 times) of CM this is good news...I think...the "Steam wars" have raged on this forums from time to time, and good reason for and against have been argued over time

I sincerely hope it works, Steam does offer many conveniences to costumers and if the math works out and more people buys into the CM brand it can only benefit us all

In my particular case, being from Latin America, I wonder how" price will work (if at all), on the one hand it could entice people over outside the US to buy more titles, but certainly reduces revenue in the short time I guess

Still, whatever the case is, having more options is always good as a costumer

If we do benefit from 'localized' pricing I'll almost certainly end up spending more. I can see my budget being stretched that little bit further to include CMBS with my soon to be made CMSF2 purchase at 'localized' pricing. Currently in USD though that's a bridge too far.
