  1. Hi All,

First, I wish you a Happy New Year for 2017. Plenty of modules and packs for this year !

I am using Gimp and not Photoshop so this is perhaps the source of my problem. I have searched on the forum and did not find the intel. I would like to create scenario briefings that looks like the one delivered native with the game. I am using the layers of the *.psd files provided but, to fill them, I would like to have the same character fonts that the one used by the game for the tactical map or for the objective points, ...

Anyone could give me hints of the character fonts and sizes to use?

    Thanks in advance

  2. I am really puzzled.

My situation is the following. I like modern combat. I own CMSF and all modules. Now, trying the demo of both CMBN and CMBS, I am impressed by the CMx2 3.0 engine and would like to give it a go without waiting few years another CMSFv2 but waiting 4.0 engine upgrade instead.

But, I do not know which one to choose: CMBN or CMBS. CMBN is now a complete game having plenty of scenarios. CMBS is expecting its first module but its content is still unclear.

I am not a military but I like reading and learning about tactics.

Thus, to decide my two questions will be the following:
    1. What is your rough estimate of the percentage of WW2 tactics that I can reuse on nowadays battlefield?
    2. Is it as easy to find an opponent on CMBS than on CMBN?

    Thanks for your feedback

Maybe not for a full module but certainly more that can be covered in future CMBN packs.

    - Free French

    - Operation Dragoon would also be a nice pack for the assault through southern France.

I see this more in a module of CMFI. The "Vercors", the "Massif Central", where FFI had really to fight directly the German army, has more relief than the Normandy.

CMFB - I haven't played the campaigns yet but the scenarios are very good. Tendency to have more slightly higher armour to infantry ratio in the battles than CMBN. The tools for battle creation have evolved and the designers have too so expect this to have the most polished scenarios.

Are they any differences regarding editor between the CMBN / CMFB games? Or, do you mean that the tools were enhanced between now and the release date of CMBN allowing to make better scenarios today?

    Thanks

Regarding CMSF updating... yup, we are very interested in bringing it up to current technical standards.  It is something that I predict will happen, just not a firm idea of when.  What I can say is that if we do it there will be (at least initially) no changes to the settings or the scenarios except (if needed and when possible) for rebalancing needs due to gameplay changes.

Wonderful, looking forward to this. And if UAVs could be introduced in a second time, would be perfect.

Is it really necessary for the game to provide a back story?  Couldn't BFC just make a middle-eastern warfare sandbox game?  That seem to be what people actually did with Shock Force.  It's certainly what I did with Shock Force.  I don't recall players actually attempting to simulate the same hypothetical conflict provided by BFC, at least not frequently.  Same goes for the scenario outlined in CMBS.

So, BFC could just produce a sandbox game, call it "Powderkeg" or some such, and have it feature a few armies.  Say, the U.S., a couple of unconventional forces like the ones in the original Shock Force, and a generic middle eastern army or two, with assorted east block and/or western equipment, that properly configured and with a few mods/uniform choices could plausibly represent a number of different potential combatants.  Who is "blue" and who fights blue as "red" is up to the player.  Much like Shock Force really, but without the complications of BFC attempting to impose a story line.

Later modules could add more armies (Turkey, Britain, France, Egypt, Iran, what have you), without really needing to justify their battlefield presence according any story line.  They would just be more toys for the sandbox -- use them as you will.

Oh, and I would cheerfully shell out $75.  (Actually, I would pay far more, but don't tell my wife).

Definitely agree, there is no need of a back story, real world is moving so quickly that a middle east sandbox is the better choice for CMSF2. Allowing to simulate Irak, Syria, Lybia, Afghanistan, Yemen, Sudan, Nigeria. After trying CMBS demo, I am really looking forward to a CMSF2. I do not know why but I am hooked with this one since years perhaps thanks to Combatintman excellent scenarios. May be a battle pack or a module for each recent conflict will interest plenty of people.

  7. I see. My intent was not to cheat. In fact, these men have seen the infantry just before a bradley fires some smoke to counter a laser designation. But the way you present it, I could understand it would introduce this "God" problem in the gameplay. For the record, they did not pass anyway…

Anyhow, great engine improvement, looking forward for this year's module.

  8. Trying CMBS demo for comparing the engine with CMSF, I must say "whaouu" !!! Great improvement of the engine and I like the new Target Briefly command, great idea. One thing that is puzzling me is that during one of the mission of the demo, computer did fire some smoke and I was knowing the infantry was just behind the smoke screen coming in my direction. I was willing to order my men to area fire on the smoke or just behind but the engine prevents me to do this.

I could understand that tank or missile needs laser designation to fire thus are blocked by smoke. But, why small arms firing is also blocked even the Target Light command? I see no real life reason why I could not waste my ammo across a smoke screen if I need to.

    Thank you
