Notice that our soldiers are now clones as well!
-
b- They (the Russians) are planning for a heavier model of a tank that is still a secret.
-
Looks like 7.62 has made it's way to commander's MG. I'm still willing to bet it will change to 12.7 during army trials.
-
Nice stuff guys!
-
The dog barking at a caravan analogy is getting stronger. In any case, they've pretty much have shown us everything except the various weapon modules.
One thing that I want to see is what MG will be mounted on Armata as com. gun. I bet it will be 12.7.

The question was about why some Russians make wild statements about the balance of tank power. Before Black Eagle was officially tossed out it was a pretty sure bet that anytime anybody said how good an Abrams is someone (perhaps a teenager) would come out and say how the Black Eagle would soon make the Abrams look like junk. You can probably still find the YouTube videos and URLs to such blatant day dreaming.
Those of us who were bombarded by such claims, fantasy websites, fantasy videos, etc. can't help but keep them in mind this time around. Credibility is established over time, but so is a lack of credibility.
Steve
That was then, now is now. Bringing Black Eagle up in a procurement discussion is as good as doing so for G11.
-
Black Eagle was never a project requested or desired by our MoD, why it comes up in discussions about procurement and armed service is beyond me. PAK-TA hype is something that originated less than 30 days ago, nothing concrete was presented, with 2024 as a deadline being very far away. If anything it is a confirmation that PAK-DA is a live project that has branched out to being a transporter as well.

I mean really:
-
T-15 looks like something out of Battletech, which I like!
-
PS, officer's uniforms are sexy now.
-
T-15 not present though.
-
Looking good, like it should! Shame these particular vehicles will be outright murdered on army trials.

Fairly interesting attempt at size comparison:

There is quite a detailed breakdown for all losses of 08/08/08 in the link I provided. It's all in Russian, but google might be able to help that.
-
So my understanding is that the 25% numbers are blown turrets, not just catastrophic loss?
All the tanks stated to be lost are losses beyond repairs. Out of those losses, 24% are ammo explosions.
-
Well, people were talking about turrets being removed...
-
Here's an overwiew of most recent conventional conflict involving a lot of T-72's.
Georgian side:
In 2008 all the T-72(AV/B)'s had K-1, out of total 65 georgian tanks, 15 were destroyed in combat, 20 were detonated after the conflict and 30 were taken as trophies. Out of the 15 tanks lost in combat five had their turret removed. 1 due to airstrike, 1 due to being abandoned and then detonated from inside, 3 due to RPG hits.
Russian side:
A total of three tanks were lost. T-72B(M) armed with K-5 Era which expended all of its amunition and was abandoned after being damaged by and RPG (no turret loss). T-62M, damaged by an RPG - turret kept (perhaps not relevant to this). T-72B (K-1 ERA), ambushed and struck by an RPG which cased ammo detonation.
All in all, out of all 17 combat lost tanks only 4 lost their turret in direct combat. https://sites.google.com/site/afivedaywar/Home/rutanklosses

Gur Khan is very buthurt now.
Oh, it's burning bright and warm.
-
It does. Especially if that trait is especially factored into the planned deployment of the design. Its a big difference for the exact reason you mentioned
Sorry for the OT.
It's a big difference in design filosophy which is reflected throughout the actual vehicle. 4 Degrees don't make a difference.
-
I can see why this didn't make it to final service. It's not the 40th millenium yet...
-
Damn, this cammo thing....
.
-
It's also a very logical replacement to 9P148.
-
I laugh at the over-fixation on gun depression importance. What's M1's gun depression like? -10 Degrees? T-72's is 6. I doubt 4 degrees of difference have a huge impact on performance especially in light of how different designs and their respective application tactics are.
Armata soon to be in service.
