That is a good point, does a anyone know if there will be any DLC'a for CMFB that adds any other factions such as the UK and Canada?

Soon (tm) would be the response to that... They -will- eventually, but FI is next, then the eastern front needs love too... but certainly with time it will.

I'm with sttp on going with the newer rather than the older... unless you have a special attachment to boccage fighting or the normandy/market garden ops, Final Blitzkrieg offers you the same late war equipment (with some new stuff on top), a variety of maps, and the latest engine improvements built in (with the exception of v4 stuff) - for a much lower price. As good as the series is, the big bundle would be over a hundred bucks on an older version brought up to current quality, as opposed to the newest thing. A great game? Certainly! But perhaps for a newer player a gentler price tag for entry would be the way to go. Especially as for the same price you could go for two games!

Well I just hit a tank with a Bazooka round in the turret last night that had the skirt- result- 1 dead bazooka team.  My impressions is they do work at least some of the time- like when it is MY bazooka guy

Yeah, my experiences have often been similar, though sometimes you get lucky. Lots of variable play into it though -what kind of HEAT round, where it hits, angle of dangle, ect...

I'd rather have 'em and not need them than need them and not have them.

  3. The 'how dar is it really' lighting option would be amazing, but failing that another field in the conditions section with 'approximate visibility: xx meters' would suffice... Without briefing notes it can be hard to tell, and as Pak40 said, you can get a target command out to about 100 meters... That gives the impression that it was brighter than it really was.

  4. Fair enough on the darkness, hadn't put my mind in the european winter mindset... Though I have been in Europe in those conditions (though not true blackout). Aussie mind. The run over thing still bugs me though - but that does seem to be an engine limitation... none the less an exciting moment that soon into the battle.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

  5. This is crazy.

I'm playing through kampfgruppe peiper, and a platoon of my infantry (dismounted) ran head long into a platoon of the enemy (mounted). Needless to say, it was a bloodbath. However that's not the surprising part.

The surprising part is when a sound contact (turned out to be a halftrack full of amerikanskis) RAN OVER a squad of veteran pioneers... who didn't notice... and kept running. Didn't even see it. The vehicle then came to a rest NOSE TO NOSE with one of my halftracks, turned out, AND NEITHER NOTICED EACHOTHER! Finally, another halftrack drives up, gets spotted, and the exchange of fire sets everyone off, and everyone can see everyone now. Most of the Americans are dead now.

The time is 7:30 am. The conditions are misty... but this is ridiculous. You notice being run over!!!!!!!!!!!

    Finally!

Aftermath: 7 german killed or wounded. Americans: 1 halftrack on fire, 2 abandoned, contents all dead. Probably more casualties in the one behind. Best of about a platoon massacred.

EDIT: This is in CM:FB running engine version 4. I've repeated this, same effect.

  6. I'd add my voice to the CM:FI + GL option... ASs others have said, the 1943 marks it out a bit (tigers can be very scary! ) and the maps  are VERY different to Europe - east or west. Mountains, the seas of yellows and oranges.... it's a very pretty game. Honestly, I'd say it's the prettiest ww2 game AFTER FB, the latest, which is stellar. RT is... well, drab. swampy. As it should be :P I like the warmer colour pallette though!

Otherwise, go with what YOU want to play? got any particular battle or campaign that really grabs your attention? Something you always read about? Go after that!

  7. I think Kino's very good to define his terms early... A game is as good as what you get out of it, and we all know that it is an uphill struggle for many players when on the low-tech side (either Rus vs us or UKR vs Rus), as well as some of the common discussions we've had around american equipment (LSWR and APS discussions, as well as armour variables).

I'm sure, from reading his plans, that Kino still plans to give his opponent a run for his money wherever possible, rather than sitting in a corner with his full force and claiming victory.

@Kinophile if you're ever after another opponenet hit me up :)
