  1. I'm not surprised both MGs were similar - a water-cooled HMG ought to have a high rate of fire capable of killing a lot of people out in the open.

A better test would include things like accuracy, ease of deployment etc. Russian HMGs are a bugger to move around, the crews get tired very quickly, which doesn't happen with MG42s. MG42s also seem to be very accurate, although usually only when my opponent is using them.

  2. I didn't like it at first, for the same reason, that it looked cluttered, but I changed my mind and now I like it, for the same reason the other guys gave, as a casualty reminder and so I can see what weapons need to be buddy aided.

  3. ...I can't bring myself to play the Soviets after the fact they murdered 20 million people before the Nazis even really killed anyone (SA Purges/Kristalnacht excepted) and it seems that the Germans really only wanted a strong German SOI just to stop these guys. Doesn't seem right...

    Ouch politics...

  4. Frey,

You could always go into the editor and change whatever aspects of the MG Map to give it a more Frenchy look ( ex, delete some buildings and add the Normans, delete Windmills )...This way, you can get the improved MG AI and have that Normandy/French look.

I could bake my own bread too, but if someone's planning on selling something better for a few bucks I'd be happy to pay :)

  5. Much as I'm looking forward to CMRT - it would be cool to have some new maps for CMBN (and CMFI for that matter). The ones that came with MG have noticeably better AI plans, but they aren't very French. Besides, sometimes I like to play the same sort of terrain (e.g. probe small rough) more than a few times.

  6. I thought I'd get us started on musing on the sort of terrain it would be realistic to encounter for Bagration...

Very interesting, thanks. I remember reading of Germans telling stories about the misery of their retreat through this landscape, that was hot and humid and full of insects.
